Transport for NSW
Sydney Harbour Bridge — Upper Arch Access Innovation

What We Did: We’re incredibly proud to be delivering a suspended access solution on one of Australia’s most iconic structures — the Sydney Harbour Bridge. In support of Transport for NSW’s major maintenance program ahead of the Sydney Harbour Bridge’s 100th anniversary, Itero Australia has successfully delivered a prefabricated hung scaffold system enabling safe remediation of the bridge’s upper arch laterals — areas that haven’t been painted since the 1990s. The work area is complex due to its location above traffic, rail, cycle and pedestrian pathways. It is also open to the elements and has specific Transport safety and environmental requirements. As part of a national tender for the bridge’s major maintenance program, Itero Australia was selected to deliver a portion of the scaffolding scope — with the first installation completed in February 2025. In a recent media release, Transport for NSW acknowledged our system as a first of its kind on the bridge - a key innovation enabling safe, efficient access to the bridge laterals scope. Installed predominantly at night to minimise disruption, our innovative solution is helping frontline teams safely meet ambitious maintenance targets — without impacting the operation of the bridge. This initiative reflects Transport for NSW’s commitment to embracing new technologies that improve safety and efficiency and a true reflection of Itero’s purpose - ‘Revolutionising Complex Asset Remediation’.
